Lumin calls its new top-of-the-line music player a ‘Core’, reflecting its all-round digital music playback capabilities that now include an in-house developed high quality digital-to-analogue converter.
The new X2 has evolved from its predecessor with a host of new technologies. Central to the advancements is a new in-house developed discrete DAC that is compatible with a wide spectrum of high-resolution formats. The custom dual mono DAC is the result of “years of R&D” and features proprietary ultra-high speed dual FPGA control, a dedicated twin Femto clock system with unique algorithms, and Lumin’s most powerful SoC processing system. The latter also allows increased storage capacity compatibility and up/down sampling to DSD256. The X2’s supported resolutions are from 16-bit to 32-bit tied to PCM 768 kHz and DSD512 (22.6 MHz). File format options are comprehensive.

Low-noise operation comes via a highly-optimised circuitry and power management system. The X2 features a separate dual mono linear power supply comprising of twin high quality toroidal transformers, dual stage linear regulators, independent digital and analogue circuitry, and a secure 9-pin umbilical cable connecting system. The power supply chassis is constructed with heavy gauge aluminium, with its styling mirroring the X2’s own elegant aesthetics.
The newly designed buffer analogue output stage is fully balanced and transformer based using high quality Lundahl Swedish output transformers which feature “compensation circuitry”. Analogue outputs are via the transformer compensated XLR sockets or unbalanced RCA. Volume control is via the highly acclaimed LEEDH Processing lossless volume adjustment algorithm.

The digital connectivity features a bespoke industry standard SFP optical network possibility allowing dual network capabilities for external network-connected devices such as NAS drives. Further connectivity includes a digital audio output via BNC, USB for additional storage, and an RJ-45 ethernet network socket. A gold plated Ground post is available too.
Naturally, the X2 is Roon Ready and offers a wide choice of streaming services such as Tidal/Tidal Connect. Qobuz/Qobuz Connect, Spotify, Amazon Music, KKBOX, TuneIn, QQMusic, etc. The X2 is multi-room capable and is MQA compatible. Lumin continues to develop and enhance its own music playback app which is available for iOS and Android.

The new Lumin X2 is available for purchase in Australia via importer Audio Magic’s country-wide network of specialist audio retailers.
