The Formation Duo (retailing in Australia at AU$6400) features driver technology derived from Bowers & Wilkins 800 flagship series. The mid-bass driver is B&W’s famed Continuum 165mm unit as used in the company’s upmarket loudspeakers while the Carbon dome tweeter, recently introduced for the 700 series, has been implemented in a ‘Tweeter on Top’ arrangement mirroring the 800 range. The Formation Duo system – which connects via ultra-low-latency technology – is capable of wirelessly streaming at up to 24-bit/96kHz resolutions and, of course, is Roon Ready. Connectivity and streaming options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect. Formation Duo allows the seamless integration of other products from the Formation platform such as the advanced Formation Bass wireless subwoofer.
With the purchase of the Formation Duo Bowers & Wilkins will package along the Formation Audio streamer valued at AU$1149 as a ‘No Charge Bonus’. Formation Audio allows streaming at 24-bit/96kHz to existing passive audio systems as well as integrating with Formation Duo speakers in multi-room configurations. Streaming to Formation Duo can also include a variety of sources, such as a CD player, DAC or turntable via the same wireless technology. Again, streaming is available via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and AirPlay 2. Formation Audio is Roon Ready too.
