Australian analogue specialist Secret Chord Analogue announces the Confluence loudspeakers featuring a single full-range driver in both unique and bespoke open baffle designs.
Available in two distinct product lines, the Confluence ‘Art’ and ‘Décor’ series speakers are produced in Australia’s beautiful Blue Mountains region, where each cabinet is mindfully handcrafted using solid hardwoods. In the Art series, the hardwoods are featured in their naturally-cut silhouette that, as a result, makes for truly unique fingerprint pieces.
The Décor series offers precision-cut baffles with a top section mirroring the gentle arc of the single driver. The Décor range is available in a variety of standard finishes in addition to made-to-order custom colours at additional cost. All hardwood is sustainably sourced and is hand waxed and oiled, producing a beautiful baffle and pedestal cabinet combination.
For the Confluence speakers Secret Chord Analogue chose a high sensitivity 380 mm cast frame paper cone driver featuring a large 7.7 kg ferrite magnet motor supported by a copper shorting cap. In lieu of a central dust cap, the unit houses a copper phase plug surrounded by a whizzer-style sub-cone serving to extend the driver’s high frequencies while controlling the dispersion pattern. The driver is centred onto the voice coil via a multi-fold cloth surround.
The Confluence speakers are partnered by the Seamless Sub, a dedicated cylindrical compact subwoofer designed to… umm, seamlessly cohere with the main driver while extending its bandwidth. It’s a sealed cabinet housing a single upwards firing 200 mm (8 inch) woofer featuring a strong ferrite magnet. The onboard plate amplifier provides 150 watts of power to the woofer driver and features a low-pass setting ranging from 40 Hz to 180 Hz. The amplifier’s Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) is given as 90 dB.
The Confluence specifications include a frequency response spanning from 20 Hz to 16 kHz with the SCA Seamless Sub subwoofer. The main driver’s sensitivity is given as 96.7 dB while its impedance is said to be 8 ohms, both specifications making the Confluence loudspeaker a low-power valve friendly design.
