Digital specialist dCS’s unique and highly acclaimed digital-to-analogue conversion system now receives a next-level re-engineering in the company’s new ‘Ring DAC APEX’.
While the Ring DAC is considered to be at the forefront of digital-to-analogue conversion systems, it has been dCS’s main technology since the early 1990s. The company, which was founded in 1987, has of course refined the Ring DAC architecture through the years, with dCS engineers providing software and firmware upgrades periodically. Further, the company’s newest offering, the Bartok Headphone DAC, featured ‘Expanse’, a new headphone processing platform dCS developed from the ground up. Now, dCS reinvents the original topology and has announced Ring DAC APEX technology.
dCS claims extensive research has resulted in a number of substantial improvements to the hardware component of the Ring DAC technology. Further, the company’s digital engineers have reconfigured the Ring DAC circuit board architecture/layout and also developed a brand new analogue output stage. The outcome has been a marked improvement in “linearity” and a reduction in distortion which translates to an overall superior measurements specifications and a claimed subjective improvement in terms of sonic performance. The new Ring DAC APEX is said to be introduced in the Vivaldi DAC and both the Rossini DAC and Player platforms.

dCS’s Ring DAC APEX technology will be available as an upgrade to existing Vivaldi and Rossini owners at a yet to be announced cost.
