Billed as a “new Reference standard for compact subwoofers”, low-frequency transducer specialist SVS has launched the new 3000 Micro R|Evolution high performance subwoofer.

SVS has dedicated extensive engineering resources to create a true high performance compact subwoofer incorporating the company’s latest proprietary driver technology and a powerful in-built DSP engine.

The 3000 Micro R|Evolution subwoofer incorporates two side-firing ‘Balanced Dual Opposing’ 9 inch (230 mm) high excursion woofers with a “progressive inverted surround” capable of producing high SPLs. The drivers are mounted back-to-back in a sealed cabinet architecture and are engineered in an acoustic and electrical parallel configuration, allowing high output when mounted within a compact enclosure. The back-to-back arrangement’s additional benefit is the cancellation of vibrational modes and mechanical forces within the cabinet’s panels.

The 3000 Micro R|Evolution’s on-board amplifier is capable of outputting 1200 watts continuous power and a staggering 4000 watts of peak power. SVS states that the amplifier combines the power and efficiency of Class-D and its Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) with the high-current capabilities of the MOSFET output stage design. In-built 56-bit DSP and “premium” digital-to-analogue converters are said to provide extended headroom and low distortion.

SVS claims the Analogue Devices 295 MHz DSP is the most powerful processor “ever deployed in a home audio subwoofer”. It’s said to be six times more powerful than DSP engines used in previous SVS subwoofers. It’s tasked with extending deep bass via a bespoke in-room frequency response curve (acoustically tuned room gain, in SVS-speak) and controlling distortion. The DSP also stabilises the AC voltage feeding the onboard amplifier’s power supply and monitors multi-point thermal control, voltage and current delivery systems. The onboard DACs provide 120 dB Signal-to-Noise Ration (SNR) providing low noise and wider headroom.

The DSP also offers an advanced Room EQ which offers a variety of filters to adapt the 3000 Micro R|Evolution’s room response to provide accurate sound in a wide variety of listener environments.

Connectivity includes LFE RCA, Left/Right unbalanced RCA, Left/Right balanced XLR inputs and Left/Right unbalanced RCA outputs. A 3.5 mm mini-jack accepts infra-red input control while another 3.5 mm socket provides a 3 Volt to 12 Volt trigger. A USB-A port allows connectivity to SVS’s SoundPath Wireless Audio Adaptor. There’s a small display screen showing volume level and other functionality (controlled via a trio of small buttons) while a standard IEC socket and on/off switch round out the features.

SVS President Gary Yacoubian told SoundStage! Australia, “When the original SVS 3000 Micro subwoofer launched, we said it was like a magic trick for doing what no compact subwoofer had ever done before,” and he went on to state, “The result is not just a vast improvement over the previous design, but a new reference standard for all micro subwoofers.”

Finishes are gloss black or gloss white. The SVS 3000 Micro R|Evolution subwoofer will be available in Australia from mid-May via importer Interdyn’s established country-wide dealer network.
