The highly acclaimed and multi-award winning Momentum electronics from Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems are updated with the celebratory Momentum Z monoblock amplifier.

Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems (DDMAS) is celebrating its 15 year milestone with the release of the new Momentum Z monoblock amplifier. The Momentum Z builds upon the Momentum platform via a number of circuit enhancements and a host of refinements, with the overall improvements said to elevate the new monoblock amplifier’s performance to an “entirely new level”.

The Momentum Z features DDMAS’ new ‘Kinetic Drive Regulator’, a proprietary power supply strategy aiming to provide immunity from the inherent “irregularities” of AC power delivery. It combines the “fine modulation characteristics” of MOSFETS and high current bipolar transistors while maintaining constant, ultra-stable voltage rails under all operating conditions. The new technology also aims to negate unwanted interactions between loudspeaker and amplifier.

DDMAS states that every aspect of the circuitry has been reevaluated, from the input stage topology to the output stage circuitry. An advanced software-based control system has been designed to optimise the general circuit operations. Temperature control is improved with a new thermal “architecture” which provides enhanced cooling said to provide “effortless dynamics, exceptional transparency, and a lifelike sense of musical scale”.

In a first for DDMAS amplifiers, a new JFET input stage with low noise, linear transfer characteristics offers “natural load handling”. The input stage is engineered to minimise distortion and protect the integrity of the signal from the input stage to the amplification stages. The JFET input stage is designed to work synergistically with DDMAS preamplifiers while the Momentum Z also offers an alternative conventional input stage.

Another first for a DDMAS amplifier, the Momentum Z now includes an RJ45 ethernet port which allows remote monitoring and key parameters status reporting. The new internet connectivity scheme allows users and DDMAS technicians to view the Momentum Z’s operational data and other amplifier functions in real time. Further connectivity includes a balanced XLR input, 12V in/out triggers, high quality speaker binding posts, and a C19 IEC socket.

The Momentum Z is capable of delivering very high current via two 1.2KVA toroidal transformers and a stout capacitor bank. Output power is quoted as 500 watts into 8 ohms, 1000 watts into 4 ohms, and 2000 into 2 ohms. Frequency response is given as 1 Hz to 200 kHz at -1 dB and from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at +0.1 dB. Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) is quoted at below 75 dB, A-weighted and under 115 dB, unweighted.

Aesthetically, the Momentum Z is a further refinement of the Momentum industrial design language. The 5-axis CNC machined solid copper heatsinks feature improved air flow cooling and flank the curved fascia which sports the centrally-placed trademark DDMAS Breguet-style ‘Dual Domain Meter Display’. The display is a high quality 3.5-inch high resolution LCD which acts as a power meter and data/function display.

DDMAS founder Dan D’Agostino told SoundStage! Australia, “The Momentum Z Monoblock Amplifier embodies the essence of my company’s design philosophy, combining technical mastery and timeless aesthetics in high-current power amplification designed to elevate every system.”
